Old entries, OpenDB & RMNP

Friday, July 29th, 2005

Another great round of updates.

First and foremost, I’ve finished importing all my old blog entries dating back to December 2000. That was quite a project, since I had to do it all by hand, cut-n-pasting each entry from a text file or old HTML files. What’s cool is that even though my server at one point got hacked and I lost everything, I was still able to get almost every entry back. This was made possible by the great people at archive.org, who had copies of most pages from my old site. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Next up, I’ve installed and populated the Open Media Lending Database, which is a piece of software to help keep track of books, DVDs, music and all that kind of stuff. The link to my database is on the right. If you want to check out my DVD and book collections, you can log in by using ‘guest’ as both the user name and the password.

Finally, I put up a photo gallery of pictures taken during our visit to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. There’s some great pictures of mountains and up close and personal wild life. Make sure to check out the panoramas!

Lots of updates

Lately I’ve been busy posting a lot of things on this site. First of all, I got the Coppermine photo gallery program up and running. You can get to it by clicking on the Picture Galleries link on the right hand side-bar. So far I’ve got a few galleries up there, mostly pictures from hiking trips my friends and I have done.

Secondly, I posted a summary and trip log of the cross country drive I did in early June with Jon Suchecki. You can get to it by clicking the Cross Country Trip link on the right. The summary also links to picture galleries from our trip.

And last but not least, I’ve been importing all of my old blog archives, dating back from December 2000. This is going to be a huge project, but once it’s done I’ll at very least have all my old posts in a format where I can take them anywhere (whereas now they’re all in a single text file). If you want, you can read some of that stuff by clicking on the Archives links on the right.

That’s all for now, I’ll post again when there’s some more new stuff here!

New site

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

Well, this is my new site. It’s not gonna be a blog or anything, just a place where I can put stuff on the web.

I’ve decided to use WordPress to manage the site. It’s a simple yet powerful CMS that’s flexible enough for the things I want to do.
